Synopsis

She’s got the brains, he’s got the muscle …

When Kelly Bridge’s parents insist on employing a bodyguard for her protection, she’s not happy. Okay, so maybe not every woman is on the cusp of developing a vaccine against a potential biological terrorist attack – but crikey, it’s not like she’s a celebrity!

Ben Jacobs flunked spectacularly out of school, so he knows his new client Dr Kelly Bridge spells trouble for him. But on a conference trip to Rome he finds things are worse than he thought. Not only is he falling for the brilliant scientist, he’s also become horribly aware she’s in grave danger. As they go on the run, dodging bullets and kidnappers, can he resist his feelings and keep her safe?

Kathryn Freeman

Kathryn Freeman portraitKathryn was born in Wallingford, England but has spent most of her life living in a village near Windsor. After studying pharmacy in Brighton she began her working life as a retail pharmacist. She quickly realised that trying to decipher doctor’s handwriting wasn’t for her and left to join the pharmaceutical industry where she spent twenty happy years working in medical communications. In 2011, backed by her family, she left the world of pharmaceutical science to begin life as a self-employed writer, juggling the two disciplines of medical writing and romance. Some days a racing heart is a medical condition, others it’s the reaction to a hunky hero…

With two teenage boys and a husband who asks every Valentine’s Day whether he has to bother buying a card again this year (yes, he does) the romance in her life is all in her head. Then again, her husband’s unstinting support of her career change goes to prove that love isn’t always about hearts and flowers – and heroes can come in many disguises.

Fabulous novel-as ever from this superbly talented author. Loved the characters, the plot twists and the ending. Fantastic use of humour as well-some great one liners that make you smile.

Kelly is an star scientist working on a vaccine for a potential new strain of smallpox. Ben is a bodyguard hired to save her, but Kelly is having none of it – why would a scientist need a bodyguard?

This is a endearing story of two misfits – the scientist and the bodyguard – who find adventure and love despite their best tries not to. A great story with a lot of twists and turns.

This is a fabulous, fast paced book, so much so, I didn’t want to put it down. Great believable and charismatic characters, great plot – a brilliant scientist is forced, against her will, to take a bodyguard, when it looks like somebody could be following her and her family are concerned. It is not a relationship either of them feels comfortable with. He’s ex-Special Forces (what’s not to like) and she’s developing a vaccine (and in her own words a bit of a geek). Kathryn has once again produced a super book, this time combining romance with thriller elements woven seamlessly through it. A great read and I adored it.

  4. I’ve always been a fan of Kathryn Freeman and yet again she’s produced another unputdownable read. She has struck a clever balance between building the suspense in the story and the sexual tension between Kelly and Ben. The pace never lets up; just when I thought things had calmed down, something else would happen. A nice little sting in the tail at the end too! Highly recommended.

Thrills and spills, love and hate, chalk and cheese. All of these wrapped up in a twisty turny plot that kept me on the edge of my seat – drama and action from page one and a will they won’t they love mismatch to boot, where close proximity and constant danger leads to fireworks. Loved it.

Kelly is a prestigious scientist and Ben is ex-special forces so both are at the top of their game as well as being total opposites. However as they try to escape from attackers they start to reveal their insecurities. Action packed with really great characters. I loved every page of this exciting novel! Highly recommend!

This book really gives you a lot for your money! A romance, a thriller and a gentle explanation of viral technology! I loved it and had a very late night to finish it before bed. The hero, Ben is a real man in all ways and the heroine, Kelly, a well put together lady. Their initial meeting was unwanted but eventually it all works out, but what a journey. The adventure they embark on is believable and the end unexpected. Make sure you have a stash of chocolate to hand and a suitable beverage as you will not want to put it down!

Another winner from Ms Freeman – feisty heroine, gorgeous hero, dangerous situation, HEA – what’s not to like?
The book tells the story of Kelly – a clever scientist who is trying to develop a particular vaccine. Her life apparently becomes threatened, so her parents hire a bodyguard for her, ex-Special Forces soldier, Ben. Kelly thinks she is an unattractive geek, Ben thinks he is a thick, uneducated squaddie. The position quickly becomes dangerous, until all becomes resolved, though not without a little twist in the tale. The story moves on quite quickly, and without too much blood and gore.

Such an amusing title to catch your eye.
Written in Kathryn Freeman’s delightfully amusing style providing great entertainment with value for the reader.
Criminals have discovered that the results of Dr Kelly Bridge’s scientific work will be priceless and are now intent on capturing her for her knowledge.
When Kelly’s parents discover the danger she’s in, they employ Ben Jacobs as her bodyguard.
After being injured in action and forced into early retirement from his professional army career, Ben is now working for a security company that often takes on more unofficial types of protection work. He thinks that guarding a scientist will be easy but she doesn’t consider herself important and won’t take the threats seriously.
Almost immediately masked men appear and attempt to kidnap Kelly, bullets fly, Ben and Kelly have to go on on the run and into hiding.
Lots of action with a romance brewing and never knowing who to trust and who is out to get them. Will Ben be able to protect Kelly? Is it possible for brainiac Kelly and man-of-action Ben to have a future together?
With realistic and engaging characters, this should bring a smile to any reader.
