Synopsis
Out with the old life, in with the new …
When Laura’s bride-to-be sister, Polly, organises a surprise reunion for her fiancé and his long lost American friend, Laura grudgingly agrees to help keep the secret. And when the plain-spoken, larger-than-life Hunter McQueen steps off the bus in her rainy Devon town and only just squeezes into her tiny car, it confirms that Laura has made a big mistake in going along with her sister’s crazy plan.
But could the tall, handsome man with the Nashville drawl be just what reserved Laura Williams needs to shake up her life and start something new?

4* I didn’t mean to stay up so late, it was too good to leave until the next day.
As the title suggests, the book is set during winter, this time in Devon and a very wet Devon. Chapter one opens in deluging rain that continues on and off throughout the book. But don’t let this put you off, it’s just to create atmosphere.
Hunter arrives in Plymouth from America as a surprise guest at his best friend’s wedding. He’s staying with Laura, the bride’s sister, until the actual wedding day. While Hunter is outgoing, Laura keeps all her emotions well hidden the result of her disastrous marriage.
Hunter enjoys teasing Laura in an attempt to loosen up her British reserve. Laura’s not reserved, the consequences of her ex-husband’s behaviour means she can’t believe Hunter could be attracted to her.
Laura has no intention of ever getting married again. Her ex-husband is a jerk and she’d rather just concentrate on her nursing career and help her sister Polly prepare for her wedding. But the universe drops a tall, dark, and handsome American in her lap and suddenly Laura isn’t quite sure she is ready to abandon her happily ever after.
Laura and Hunter are electric in this story – they are both reluctant but undeniably attracted to each other. This book was a pleasure to read and I will definitely be checking out other books from this author.
I always enjoy Angela Britnell’s novel and New Year, New Guy didn’t disappoint. A fabulous tale of romance between two very believable and loveable characters. You can’t help but like Hunter and Laura the minute you meet them. Hunter is in the UK for his friend Johnny’s wedding. Johnny is marrying Laura’s sister Polly. Polly has tracked him down and asked him to come as a surprise for her new husband to be. All Laura has to do is keep him out of sight for a few days, so as not to spoil the surprise. Only maybe Johnny and Hunter’s pasts are not as rosy as Johnny has made out. Added to which Laura’s ex, who works with her, is not happy about the arrival of the American. There are lots of plot twists that will render you unable to put the book down as you will Hunter and Laura to resolve their issues and get together. I think Angela’s writing keeps getting better and better and I am always sorry to get to the end of one of her novels. Now I can’t wait for the next one.
Lovely relaxing read. Great characters. Hunter is a gorgeous hunk of a man from the USA, almost too good to be true. However everyone has secrets. Can Laura look beyond his appearance to see his true character? Very well written novel which draws you into these characters’ world. Highly recommend
This romance between a large American and a British nurse hits all the right spots. The initial reluctance to host Hunter for her sister’s surprise ‘gift’ to her soon to be husband made Laura very negative towards him. As the reasons for this are made clear to the reader you understand her reluctance totally. As you would imagine things do eventually improve between our hero and heroine but the the twists keep you keen to read more. A lovely sweet story that only needs you to get the chocolate, a comfy chair and enjoy yourself.
I really enjoyed this book, it hooked me right from the start and kept me involved all the way through – I am happy to recommend it. Laura is a senior nurse in Plymouth, with a bad marriage behind her, and her sister is getting married, arranging for ‘an old friend’ of her fiance’s to arrive as a surprise. The ‘friend’ is Hunter, an American, and although he turns up, he is not so sure that Johnny will be happy to see him. How will it all turn out? Well, Angela Britnell hasn’t disappointed me so far and certainly doesn’t this time either! Most satisfactory ….
