Synopsis
Could a beautiful old house and a handsome stranger hold the key to a life-changing secret?
Rosie Phillips could be forgiven for not being immediately won over by Tanner Bryant. After all, their first meeting involves him knocking a tray of prawn cocktail over her very expensive dress at a charity event in the grounds of Lucerne Lodge.
But little does Rosie know how pivotal that awkward first meeting will be, or how the Lodge will become the unexpected backdrop for a summer spent finding out who she really is, and who she could be …
Morton S. Gray
Morton S. Gray lives with her husband, sons and Lily, the tiny dog, in Worcestershire, U.K.
She has been reading and writing fiction for as long as she can remember, penning her first attempt at a novel aged fourteen, the plot of which closely resembled an Errol Flynn film.
Life got in the way of writing for many years, until she won a short story competition and the spark for writing was well and truly reignited. She carries a notebook everywhere as inspiration strikes in the most unlikely places.
She studied creative writing with the Open College of the Arts and joined the Romantic Novelists’ Association New Writers’ Scheme in 2012.
Previous ‘incarnations’ were in committee services, staff development and training. Morton has a Business Studies degree and is a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Reiki Master. She has diplomas in Tuina Acupressure Massage and Energy Field Therapy.
She enjoys history, loves tracing family trees and discovering new crafts. Having a hunger for learning is a bonus for the research required for her books.
The Girl on the Beach was her debut novel with Choc Lit and winner of the 2016 Search for a Star competition.

This was a story full of twists and turns that kept me guessing all through. The start doesn’t bode well for Tanner and Rosie but their intertwined lives and relationships just keep going. I found that all of the characters were very real and, unusually in a romance, their reactions and behaviour were very believable. I really empathised with them all, the plot drew me totally into their lives. At one point I thought that I had nearly finished the book, but no, another twist appeared. A really great story which I am sure you will enjoy as much as I did.
Another Borteen book, this one includes a stalker mystery, a dying father, ancient feuds, old heartache, hidden secrets and impossible love. There are mysteries within mysteries and a bit of magic to boot. How will it all work out? Time and a good read will tell.
I’m always excited by another Morton S Gray book, and Summer at Lucerne Lodge didn’t disappoint. Tanner and Rosie are such superb characters that you can’t help fall in love with and will to succeed, but there’s a huge reason why they can’t get together. Morton’s fast paced story had a tension that had me completely hooked from page one. And the Lucerne Lodge Retreat sounds like somewhere I’d love to go!
This is another pleasant trip to the seaside at Morton S Grey’s fictional Borteen Bay, with new characters and locations, but also with some mentions of old friends and places. The story was entertaining, and although it really could only go one way (as it did), that didn’t matter, I romped through it in no time and enjoyed the journey. I would certainly like a stay at Lucerne Lodge ….
I heartily recommend the book for a good read.
This story grabbed me from the first page. Rosie and Tanner meet and there’s definitely an immediate connection. But why? What is the connection between them and what part do their families play? A great read with characters you care about and some fascinating twists and turns. Thoroughly enjoyed this novel in a great seaside location. Highly recommend!
