Editorial Assistant (Romance)

Location: Hybrid (minimum 3 days in the Shoreditch office)
Hours: 10 a.m.–4.30 p.m. core hours

About the Role
Joffe Books is looking for a passionate and creative Romance Editorial Assistant to join our growing team and help drive the success of our Choc Lit imprint. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a thriving romance list and play a key role in our digital-first publishing success. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of the romance genre and readers, authors and market trends, and will be passionate about working in this genre.

Salary: £28-32,000 based on experience

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write engaging back cover copy for our romance titles

  • Create cover briefs for new titles

  • Provide assistance to the romance team

  • Support the Head of Romance in evaluating and selecting manuscripts based on our criteria

  • Communicate with authors, freelancers (editors, proofreaders, designers) responding to queries and keeping books on schedule

  • Forge strong relationships with authors and providing author care

  • Collaborate with the editorial and marketing teams to plan and publish diverse romance books

Essential experience & skills required:

  • In-depth understanding of the romance genre and audience.

  • Meticulous copy-editing, proofreading and research skills

  • Excellent attention to detail with very strong communication and organizational skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Dropbox, and Google tools

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team across multiple projects at once

  • A passion for digital tools and publishing

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines

  • Experience in a publishing environment is a bonus, but not essential
