A Q&A WITH ELLIE HENDERSON

Where do you do most of your writing?

At my desk although I also write on trains, at the kitchen table and in coffee shops!

What’s your favourite time of day to write?

It used to be early in the morning and sometimes late at night. But now I don’t have a favourite time of day to write. I just write when I can and when I’m in the writing zone I am very happy!

Where do you go when you need some inspiration?

When I need some inspiration, I go for a walk. Especially in the area that I am writing about. (picture attached is of Loch Lomond and the view from Conic Hill - Loch Lomond)

Show us something that inspired a character or scene.

My great-grandmother was a kiltmaker in Glasgow.  This inspired Flora, the lead character, to go on a kiltmaking course in Edinburgh.

What’s your go-to writing snack or drink?

Black coffee in the morning. Peppermint tea in the afternoon! If I can drink it outside in the sunshine then even better! By the time I finish a manuscript I am usually too wired and tired to celebrate! But I do try and have a glass of fizz or red wine. Writing a book can be quite the journey so by the time I am finished I am usually very happy but also ready to collapse!

Show us your writing buddy!

Molly my dog.
